OUR CAPABILITY STATEMENT

Designing battery and inverter system

Designing a battery and inverter system for a solar project involves integrating energy storage to optimize energy usage and ensure a reliable power supply. Below are the key steps Glamner Consultants follow in designing such a system: Load Analysis: We conduct a comprehensive analysis of the energy consumption profile of the system. We identify peak loads, daily energy requirements, and any specific power demands. This information guides us in the sizing of the battery and inverter system. Solar System Design: If the project includes a solar photovoltaic (PV) system, we design it first. We calculate the solar array capacity based on the daily energy consumption, site location, and available sunlight. It is ensured that the solar system is designed to charge the batteries effectively. Determine Energy Storage Requirements: We calculate the energy storage requirements by considering factors such as the desired autonomy (backup time), Depth of Discharge, and daily energy consumption. The formula for battery capacity is: Required Battery Capacity (kWh) = Daily Energy Consumption (kWh) x Autonomy (hours) / Depth of Discharge (%). Select Battery Technology: Choose the appropriate battery technology based on the project requirements. Common options include lead-acid, lithium-ion, or other advanced battery chemistries. Consider factors such as energy density, cycle life, and operational temperature range. Determine Battery Voltage and Configuration: Required battery voltage based on the inverter specifications and load requirements is determined. It allow us to configure the batteries in series or parallel to achieve the desired voltage and capacity. Compatibility with the chosen inverter is ensured. Inverter Selection: Glamner Consultants can select or recommend inverter for its clients or we can check specifications with the inverter from the ‘Preferred Equipment List’ provided by the client. This inverter should meet the power requirements of the load and is compatible with the selected battery bank. We consider the inverter's efficiency, surge capacity, and features such as grid interaction or off-grid capabilities, depending on the project's needs. System Voltage and Compatibility: It is ensured that the battery bank voltage aligns with the inverter specifications. This is to maintain compatibility to prevent issues during the charging and discharging cycles. Common system voltages include 12V, 24V, or 48V. Inverter Charger Functionality: If the system is grid-tied, consider an inverter with charger functionality. This enables the batteries to be charged from the grid during off-peak hours or when solar generation is insufficient. We recommend configuration of inverter charger settings accordingly. Safety Features: Generally, safety features such as overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, and temperature monitoring for both the batteries and inverter are incorporated in the design. We ensure that the system complies with relevant safety standards. Battery Management System (BMS): If using lithium-ion batteries, include a Battery Management System (BMS) to monitor and manage individual cells, balancing the charge to prolong battery life and enhance safety. Integration with Solar Charge Controller: We design integration of battery and inverter system with a solar charge controller. We ensure that the charge controller is compatible with the solar array and can efficiently manage the charging process. Wiring and Electrical Design: We design electrical wiring layout, ensuring proper sizing and connections between the solar array, charge controller, batteries, and inverter. We follow electrical codes and standards to ensure safety and reliability. Testing and Commissioning: We help with the testing of the entire system before commissioning. We develop ITPs and ITRs to verify that the solar panels charge the batteries, the inverter operates as intended, and the system seamlessly transitions between solar, battery, and grid power. Monitoring System: Glamner Consultants system designs the monitoring system to track the performance of the battery and inverter system. Monitor key parameters such as battery state of charge, inverter status, and energy production to identify any issues promptly. Documentation and Training: As a part of our design we prepare comprehensive documentation, including system manuals and as-built drawings. Provide training to end-users or maintenance personnel on system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. By following the above steps, we ensure that the design implementation is efficient and reliable. We collaborate with experienced professionals in this field to further enhance the success of the design and implementation process.

    Lightning Protection System

Designing a lightning protection system is crucial to safeguard structures and their occupants from the destructive effects of lightning strikes. Below are the steps Glamner Consultants typically follow to design a comprehensive lightning protection system. Risk Assessment: Risk assessment is conducted to evaluate the susceptibility of the structure(s) to lightning strikes. We consider factors such as location, height, occupancy, and the presence of flammable materials (if any). Standards and Codes Compliance: We refer relevant Australian, International standards and codes governing lightning protection systems. We ensure compliance with Australian and local standards, such as AS/NZS 1764, NFPA 780, and IEC 62305. Structure Classification: We classify the structure according to its purpose, size, and risk level. Different classifications normally require variations in the lightning protection system design. Lightning Protection Zones (LPZ): We divide the structure into Lightning Protection Zones (LPZ) based on the external environment. This zoning helps determine the level of protection required for each area of the structure. Capture System Design: We design lightning capture system using air terminals (lightning rods). Placement of lightning protection elements are determined using appropriate method. Structure’s roof shape, height, and geometry plays a vital role in determination of protection elements. Well-connected network of air terminals is ensured to maximize lightning capture efficiency. Down Conductor System: Earthing System Design: Glamner Consultants can design effective earthing system to dissipate the lightning current into the ground safely. We use SafeGrid software for this purpose. It helps us to determine ground rod placement, and the use of ground enhancement materials if necessary. Bonding: Proper bonding of all metal components within the structure, including structural elements, pipes, and electrical systems are ensured. Bonding prevents potential differences that could lead to side flashes or arcing. We follow AS/NZS 3000 (Section 5) for this purpose. Surge Protection Devices (SPD): installation of lightning protection components does not compromise the integrity or function of other systems. Installation Guidelines: Periodic Inspection and Maintenance: It is recommended that a routine inspection and maintenance schedule for the lightning protection system is integrated into Assets Management System. Regularly check for corrosion, loose connections, and any signs of wear or damage is recommended. Ensure that the system remains in optimal condition over time. By following these steps, an effective lightning protection system is designed. This mitigates the risks associated with lightning strikes and protects both structures and their occupants. Always consult with qualified professionals and adhere to relevant standards throughout the design and installation process.
